Scott Meehan
Scott Meehan graduated from UCLA with a BA in economics in 1983. Upon graduation, he worked for Senator Pete Wilson in Washington, D.C. In the summer of 1984, Scott Meehan was part of the security advance team for Michael Jackson’s concert tour through 22 cities in North America. With nearly 20 semi-trucks, it was the largest concert tours in history.
He went on to attend Loyola Law School where he graduated in 1988 near the top of his class on the Dean’s List and a member of the Sir Thomas Moore Honor Society. He began his legal career at worldwide legal juggernaut Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom in their litigation department whose clients included MGM, Disney, and the NFL. With public service in his heart, he went on to ran a congressional campaign and secured a temporary restraining order against a sitting US congressman when he used illegal tactics in violation of the First Amendment.
With over 35 years experience as a trial lawyer, Mr. Meehan has set benchmarks in several areas of the law. With a foundation of big firm experience, he has sucessfully litigated against well- funded adversaries through multiple trials and arbitrations. He won multiple judgments in construction defect litigation against David Murdoch-owned Sherwood Development Company. He secured one of the largest awards in the history of AAA arbitration–$26 million dollars– against several overseas investors when they failed to fund his client’s motion picture projects. He has also taken on insurance companies, including a bad faith adjudication against North American Specialty Insurance Company when it refused to defend and indemnify his client when it was sued by a stunt man injured inside a rented army vehicle. An expert in law and motion practice, he not only obtained victory on summary judgment but has a published opinion in the California Court of Appeal, Winchester Mystery House, LLC v. The Global Asylum, Inc.. 210 Cal.App.4th 579 (2012) establishing the First Amendment standard in cases of title infringement in the State of California.
A long-time local resident and graduate of Agoura High School, Scott Meehan lives in Westlake Village with his wife Theresa, herself an attorney and former prosecutor, along with their two boys. Mr. Meehan has coached his numerous youth sports teams and served as president of Agoura/Oak Park Youth Football for several years. He recently joined Alfonso & Berriz leading its expansion into complex tort litigation,
